it would get you lapped half way through your heat race, here. it might get you towards the front of a hobby/purestock race, but probably not.

like someone said, run two different classes. StreetStock and Crate StreetStock. give it a year or two, and see which is drawing more cars and having better races.

There has always been a certain amount of cheating, at every race track.
It really dont matter what you come up with for engine rules. The guys that
have the big dollars to spend, will always get around them. Any new craze
that comes up in racing. Opens a big wide open market for parts people.
If this crate deal takes off. Dont even think for one second, that all these
after market folks such as, A R P fasteners just for an example. Wont jump
on that train. They suddenly have a new market available. Options such as
this will become available quick!! And it will allow the money folks to get
the edge. There is already ways being looked at to tap these crates. Want
to know what it is? How much do you want to spend?

There are alot of morons out there then. I know Hobby Stock racers with close to 5 grand in their motors alone.

Depending on the competition level in your area, you might be able to take a $5k car to the track, but here we have 'racecars', not 'cars that race'. You can't even build a roller for 5K.

I know a lot of drag racers, dirt and asphalt, that have a lot of money in their motors. Some are friends with my husband that he has beat with his little cheap motor he built for $500 or less. He did nothing special to it. He took his time and is still running that motor now. He just knows how to build an engine and how to drive. He don't cheat either. Tweeder they're a lot of morons out there Exclamation That just my opinion.

Some of these statements are flat out ridiculous. You CAN NOT "build" a motor for less than $500. It is IMPOSSIBLE! The price of parts alone won't allow it, no matter how cheap of parts you buy.

If you are running a competitive stock type car for $5000, that is great... but it is not the StreetStock class that is where i frequent the races. $5000 could not get someone close to having a full-blown StreetStock car. It could not get you close to having an engine to compete in that class, let alone a complete car. a $5000 car would get you embarrassed at Batesville/West Plains/Augusta (when it is open). you could probably keep up in the "Hobby" class that PCR let get out of control, but i don't know. that class was creeping closer and closer to StreetStock before the year was over.

i think the crate idea is an option to create better racing in a class that is not affordable in all areas of the country.

What are you suggesting, that I am lying? Maybe perhaps you are the ridiculous one. I know what we spend on rebuilt engines.

There is a HUGE difference between 'building' and 'rebuilding'. Building requires obtaining all initial parts needed, block, crank, rods, pistons, etc. You get the point. That CAN NOT be accomplished for less than $500 like you stated. Rebulding is freshening up existing parts and only spending money on gaskets, rings, possible honing, etc. That is more possible to do. So yes, you're statement wasn't true. The initial purchase of a crate is cheaper than the initial build of a 'Race' motor, and I wouldn't think the freshening of one would be much higher than $500. Someone else may be able to shed light on the cost of freshening one.
