Eric Wells Races to Ponderosa Win
Adds Podium Finishes at Wythe and 411
Hazard, Kentucky (07/18/18 ) – With momentum in his corner Eric Wells enjoyed another busy stretch of racing over the past few days. He started things by picking up the $2,000 win on Friday night at Ponderosa Speedway in his Wells Motorsports #18 Big Blue Smokehouse/ Longhorn Chassis/ Cornett Race Engine before adding two additional podium finishes to his 2018 resume.
"Things went about as perfectly as they could have at Ponderosa, and then we were pretty good at Wythe Raceway and 411 Motor Speedway," Wells revealed. “We are still just a tick off, but right now my team and I are really having a good time. It’s cool to be leading the Southern Nationals points, but unfortunately I won’t be able to chase the title as I have some non-racing related commitments this week. We’ll be back to action late next week though, and hopefully we can pick right back up with these strong runs.”
On Friday evening Eric Wells visited Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Kentucky). After registering the fastest time in qualifying, Wells cruised to a heat race victory, which locked his spot into the A-Main.
Eric jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the finale. He held off David Webb late in the race, while navigating through lap-traffic, to pick up his second win of the season.
Webb, Todd Coffman, Michael Chilton, and Cameron Marlar completed the Top 5 in the final rundown. Wells was awarded a $2,000 payday for his dominant performance in the 20-lapper.
The following night at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Virginia) the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series opener was being contested, and Wells followed up the fifth-fastest time in his qualifying group with a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Dale McDowell.
Earning the fifth-starting position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Eric Wells jumped up two spots to reel in a third-place finish behind Dale McDowell and Vic Hill with Ross Bailes and Casey Roberts completing the Top-5 finishers.
Tuesday night saw Eric Wells enter the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern National Series event at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tennessee). With 31 Super Late Models on hand for the $3,500-to-win event, Eric locked his spot into the feature with the third-fastest time in his qualifying group. Rolling off sixth, Wells gained four positions in the 35-lap affair to notch a runner-up finish behind Cory Hedgecock with Michael Chilton, Brandon Overton, and Casey Roberts completing the Top-5 finishers.

Eric’s next events will be on July 27-28, when he heads back to the Volunteer State for a pair of Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals events. Friday’s program takes the team to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee), where a $5,300 top prize will be on the line. On Saturday night Wells will look to once again tame the “Bad Fast Taz” as he pursues a $10,000 winner’s check at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tennessee).
